Introduction to Linux

Following the completion of this course, students will have an introductory knowledge of the Linux family of operating systems. Students will have created a live USB with Linux, installed Linux alongside an existing Windows installation, explored the KDE Plasma and GNOME 3 interfaces, and explored some fundamental command line utilities. This course specifically covers both Scientific Linux (a Red Hat distribution) and Kubuntu Linux (a Debian distribution) at a basic level, allowing students to understand how different distributions come about and what to look for when deciding which distribution to use. Students will also be provided an overview of different fields within IT, including scripting (through learning bash), networking (with SSH), and security (user groups and firewall).
